I have 1 PC connected direct to wireless hub. Laptop connects to wireless hub
perfectly. 2nd PC with wireless dongle will connect for internet sharing and
can ping other computers (and can ping itself) but cannot browse itself
through workgroup in explorer. in cmd i type \\sarah (sarah being computer
name) and window containing shared folders opens, but when I click on them I
do not have access permission (I am logged on as administrator)

Neil,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Thanks for the post. I ran the ipconfig /all as suggested. everything is
fine EXCEPT Netbios over TCPIP is disabled. I presume this is causing the
problem. How do I enable Netbios

Neil,

Post "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" for both computers, here, and we'll
start diagnosing the problem. The NBT setting may not be the only problem.

And Neil, please type your answers after mine.

Neil,

Let's see if the Network Setup Wizard will help. Run that, and select:
This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or
through a residential gateway.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/using-network-setup-wizard-in-windows.html#NATClient>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/using-network-setup-wizard-in-windows.html#NATClient

If no improvement, check for network components and services.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#Components>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#Components

And check for LSP / Winsock corruption.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/problems-with-lsp-winsock-layer-in.html

Then go thru the complete troubleshooting article, item by item.
