pbm with system restore. Vista Ultimate

Hi everybody,

One of these days...

My system restore utility has now a strange behaviour. Although it 'seems'
to be working , before I first got a screen proposing to either choose the
proposed restoration point or choose another one. Now, this utility opens on
a screen explaining what it will do (Restore system files and parameters)
and a link to "how it works".
The next screen, as before, shows the list of all the restoration points
previously created and available.

Is it possible to repair this "system restore" utility and, if so, how can I
do that?

Before this happened, for some time, I just could not perform any system
restore. Indeed, everything seemed to proceed normally and at the very end a
msg box indicated that no change could be made because some unexpected error
occured during the process.

And just before this, today, I was on the phone with a DELL tech support,
trying to solve a particular problem with my USB connections. I was
requested to modify some parameter in the BIOS, concerning Power management,
and to update an Intel driver. I don't know if this is correlated. As things
didn't go too well, I was asked to perform a system restore, and this is
when the problems started, i.e. when I couldn't do any system restore.

Anyone?

Many thanks in advance for all your kind help.
Best rgds,
Daniel

Hi Mark,

many thanks for your quick reply . I do appreciate your kind help.

Most useful info. I will go thru the different steps, for I am not sure now
that my restore utility is working OK.

One thing though: I think I know why the welcome screen of the utility was
different. It seems to me that the utility proposes a choice of restoration
points if an important update or application has been installed before.
Could I be right?

thanks again and brgds

That makes no difference - use the same troubleshooting techniques Mark
recommended.
