$patchcache$ directory

Am looking at areas on an OS installation partition that take up large
volumes of space and looking at what they are there for and are they required.

I have come across the (In WinXP) - C:\windows\installer directory and
noticed that its the second largest folder in the C:\windows folder. Checking
looks to be installed apps, MSI's etc. However, have come across the below
folder and wondered if this is just a cache folder like, temp files, temp IE
files etc. And if it is, can it be maintained or the contents deleted???

C:\WINDOWS\Installer\$PatchCache$\Managed

Any ideas or info much appreciated?

Cheers

No, it is not like Tempory Internet Files Folder.

C:\WINDOWS\Installer\$PatchCache$ is probably related to MS Office.

To avoid all kinds of errors with applications such as MS Office, leave the
C:\WINDOWS\Installer folder alone.

FWIW, I deleted some MS Office related items and I now *CANNOT* get MS
Office Updates.
