Password Policy - .net Server

D

Dr. Compynei

We have just installed the 180 day trail version of Windows .net 2003 Server
and everything is running fine. Except for one problem.

We need to set passwords on a small network of like 'password' and 'jean'.
That are simple for the disabled students using the centre to remember.

However when trying to set this Windows states that we must have a 'secure
password'. Obviously for the administrator account we have one, but I need
to disable this.

I disabled the setting in
Computer Settings
Account Policys
Password Policys
(I think thats the right location).

This was disabled on:
All domain tree policys
Domain Controller Security Policy
Domain Security Policy

But it is still taking affect - even after a restart.

Any ideas anyone? I really need to sort this asap.

Best Regards

Neil

*Excuse my cross posting but I really need to sort this!

It is in GPOs that are linked to the domain object that you need
to control the Account policies, including the password strength
policies. It sounds like you have included the domain linked GPOs.
You need to change these not to "not configured" but to disabled
in order to reverse the effect of being previously enabled.
Check all GPOs that are linked to the domain.
Account policies control properties for all domain accounts,
so perhaps you would have an option by use of machine local
accounts with simple passwords. Also, notice that something
like 1LittlePig does meet complexity requirements.

Make sure you modify the Default Domain Policy or the Domain Security
Policy, NOT the Default Domain Controller Policy or the Domain Controller
Security Policy.
