Password changes

D

DoA User

Hello,

I have a weird situation: a minority of my users are utilising Outlook 2003
pointed to my Exchange server only, by which I mean their PCs don't belong
to my domain, they are mail-only accounts using Outlook. Everything works
fine until their account passwords near expiration.

I know it's not possible to change the AD user account password from within
Outlook (or is it?) so I've had them use OWA for that and it's worked okay.
I'd heard--don't ask me where--that Outlook 2003 users will get notified
that their passwords are about to expire but it doesn't seem to be the
case. I know OWA users get notified but is that the same case with Outlook
2003? If so, is there a setting I need to enable within Outlook?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

FW

There is no password expiration notification function in Outlook; be nice if
there was.
You can however, change your password via Outlook in this situation. It has
that functionality built in.

To let them know to change their passwords, you would need to send them
email letting them know their password was about to expire. Still a bit
messy, but better than what you have now most likely.

See http://www.houseofqueues.com/CodeSamples/PassCheck.txt for a sample
script that does this via ldap. Could be done with other methods, but this
worked fine for me in a similar situation.

I believe I directed them, via a message, to a web page to change a
password, but Outlook does have the ability to change the password. The
change password option occurs when the user is prompted for entering their
password in the first place. For your purposes, it may be best to use a web
page password function else direct them to logon via OWA and change it.
