Paragraph Spacing Reverts after Save and Re-Open

Howdy,

Using Word 2003:
I have a doc with a number of Heading 1 headings. No matter how hard I try,
the Spacing Before for one of those headings always reverts to 0" (zero)
after I save and re-open the document. I've applied Heading 1 style, I've
manually entered 12pt for Spacing Before, I've painted format from other
headings, but it always goes back to zero after saving and re-opening. Any
suggestions?

It sounds as if perhaps you have (a) applied the Space Before as direct
formatting and not modified the Heading 1 style, and (b) have "Automatically
update document styles" checked under Tools | Templates and Add-ins.

Rutabaga,
Might need a couple of messages to troubleshoot this, but first do this:
Open the document, choose Tools, Templates and Add-ins.
In the Templates tab, make sure "automatically update document styles" is
NOT checked.
Delete the path to any template other than Normal next to where it says
"Attach".
