Paging File Size Will NOT Change

C

code:9999

I've tried adjusting my pagefile size through My
Computer->Properties->Advanced->Performance->Advanced->Virtual Memory->Custom
Size. I set the amount (4000 initial, 4000 max), click set, click the three
OKs and confirm the reboot, but every time I reboot, the actual "Currently
Allocated" pagefile size remains at a stubborn 652MB. I've tried to set to
No Paging file, reboot, set custom and reboot again. That doesn't work.
I've tried System Managed Size. I've tried changing it though the Registry.
I've tried uninstalling accelerator drivers. I've tried changing Avast's
boot up settings (No, I neither currently nor in the past have ever used
Symantec products). I've tried several different sizes. I have full
Administrator privileges and have tried the master Admin in safe mode. I
have nothing in my startup menu. I have tried turning pagefile off, deleting
pagefile.sys and setting a custom value. I have tried uninstalling all
antivirus software. I have tried clearing pagefile on shutdown. I have even
reinstalled windows completely. None of these options have worked.
Suggestions please!

I am having a problem with swap/pagefile also, but my problem is that it is
using about 250mb where as my sys. ram is only using about 350 mb.

Well you did not set youre adjustments properly...One must click "set" 2X,
not 1X for it to take effect...Also,youre way off the scale in youre
page-file
size, best is "let system manage",but if you must tinkre with it,set it to 1
1/2
the size of pc ram.Too much (as youre trying to) only decreases xp
performance,
chk by viewing system monitor process/page file bytes counters.

After selecting your new setting click on Set, OK, and on next screen
Apply and OK. Restart the computer.

I suspect you are missing out on Apply which can be greyed out but will
not be if you have changed a setting.

Hope this helps.
