I have gigabit ethernet switch, a network drive (NAS) also Gigabit, one
computer that is gigabit ethernet and others that are 100/.
I noticed the gige computer file transfer from or to NAS seemed slow. I
looked at my switch and all of the ports lights were blinking during the
transfer even though the only activity should have been on two ports just the
nas and gige computer???
I pulled off all other devices of the switch (all were 100mbit ) other than
the gige computer and nas and the transfer rate went way up.
I presume some type of broadcast is happening and the 100mbit links slowed
it down. The question is, why is it broadcasting?
I even tried a ping from the gige computer to the NAS. All the ports lit up
when I had all the devices plugged in.
I tried other computers and ping does not light up all ports when I do it
from a different pc, nor does a transfer.
So what is going on with my gig ethernet connected computer?
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help.
