P4SDX - USB2 not working

Up until a short while ago I was using a USB2 7 port hub on a Windows
XP setup. Almost overnight - and I can't remember the circumstances -
the USB2 stopped working. I replaced the hub with two new ones - one
after the other - but to no avail. I then plugged in a USB1 hub which
worked perfectly but everytime I connected my scanner or my external
HD's a message popped up telling me they would work faster on a
different hub. If I replacede the hub I then got a message telling me
that the hub was faulty!

I removed all references to USB in Device Manager, rebooted and let
Windows find them again but nothing changed. I tried removing all
references to USB drivers and reinstalled the driver from the original
disk but I am no farther forward.

Is this a fault on the mainboard or is it a software fault? Any help
would be much appreciated before I throw it away and buy a new board
but which one?!!

Did u build or make this system yourself?

If so, did u install the inf files from the mobo cd??

I would also check the BIOS to see if USB2 is actually
enabled on all ports.

And I take it SP1 or 2 is installed as well?

Yes Paul - about 2 years ago.All files installed from mobo cd. Just
got a replacement cd and tried again having removed all traces via
device manager. Have chyecked BIOS and all is as should be and yes SP2
installed.

The thing is it was working perfectly via a USB2 hub and just stopped
overnight. Have got the hub working again via a newly installed PCI
card but cannot access the external drives because of an i/o error.
Don't know where to start to fix that! Any ideas?
