Over writing vista files

I have an activated and registered copy of Windows Vista Home Premium
installed. Since using an anti spyware and registry checker program (which I
now guess was not really comp[atible with Vista) I have lost some keys and
files. The most important of these is Windows Restore - which means I cannot
take the system back to before that check.
If I reinstall Windows over the existing program, will it repair it? (I
have the progrm cd)

If you "repair" Vista, you'll have to choose the "Upgrade" path in order to
preserve your data and programs (this is akin to the InPlace Upgrade that is
commonly called a repair install for XP).

It's most easily accessed by launching the Vista DVD from within Vista.

CAVEAT: Stuff happens, so make sure you've got backups of all important
data anyway - just in case something goes wrong

With XP you could just boot from the installation disk and the run repair
instead of install. Isn't this possible in Vista also?

Thanks for that. It seems to have done the trick.

Of course reinstalling the system will work, However you could have done
just a repair see the following link for details.
