over-ride the local security policy of my laptop computer

Calling any guru,

How can I over-ride the local security policy of my laptop computer (which
has joined a Windows 2000 native-mode domain) so that my LOCAL account
username can use a really short password? I don't care if my domain
password has to be long and complex, but I want the local one to be short.
I went to Start > Settings > Control Panel > "Administrative Tools" > "Local
Security Policy" > "Password Policy" however, "Password Policy"is grayed
out. So are everything else such as "Min password length" and "password
must meet complexity requirements". These settings are grayed out even when
logged on as a LOCAL administrator.
