outside sounds being recorded through video card

I recently installed a "Kworld Mpeg TV Station/PCI" videocard in my computer
mainly for transfering my home videos to mpeg files. Everything works fine
except when I play back my mpeg files outside sounds that were present
during the recording process (e.g. television, consersations, etc.) were
recorded into the file as well. My videocard has one RCA port that is
listed as "AV in" in which I have my RCA video cable from my camera
connected to. The RCA audio cable is connected directly into the "line in"
port on my sound card through the use of a dual RCA port to 1/8" stereo jack
adapter (one RCA port is being used while the other RCA port is empty).

As a test, I connected my RCA audio cable into the "AV in" port on my video
card then ran the factory included cable from the "audio out" port on the
videocard to the "line in" port on my soundcard to see if audio would be
present when I played the video tape. When I did, there wasn't any audio
present.

What am I doing wrong? Is outside sound coming in through the empty RCA
that is connected to my "line in" port on my sound card? Or am I suppose to
combine both the video and audio cables from my camera into one jack and
connect that to my "AV in" port on my videocard (while having a cable from
the "audio out" port on the videocard to the "line in" port on my
soundcard)? Or is there something else I am doing totally wrong?
Appreciate any insight.

Make sure microphone is muted in your sound settings, and that line-in is
selected in your TV/Capture settings.
