Outlook won't send with Qwest DSL?

David

I recently searched for my first DSL line. I wanted to
keep my old email address through my school and Qwest
said that their Broadband Basic package would work just
fine for me.

I can receive email from my incoming mail server (POP3)
but cannot send anything through my outgoing (SMTP)
server. Qwest explains that their system requires me to
use their email accounts (a higher priced package) in
order to gain access to their outgoing servers. Is there
any way to send email messages myself without having to
sing-up for an email account I will never use?

Thank you,
David

You could look up the web for freeware/shareware smtp server applications, install one suitable for your needs on your machine and set Outlook to submit the outgoing emails to such smtp server application, which then in turn would deliver the email directly to adressee instead of relaying it to your provider's smtp. One advice though - check with your ISP whether their ports are open for users to send emails directly as some ISPs, in an attempt to stop spammers and viruses, have closed or restricted the ports and permitting users just the relay of email to the ISP's smtp server.

So the quest account is internet access only, you don't get an email
account? What errors are your receiving when you try to send? Are you
authenticating with the school's SMTP to send your mail?
