outlook won't open my archived mail and contacts

I got a new computer. I saved my outlook files per the instructions. My new
computer is running XP pro. When I attempt to recover my archived mail,
contacts and calendar, I get a message saying the files are not compatible
with this version of outlook. It's the same program I had on my old machine.
I've followed the archive and recovery instructions to the letter.

What "archive and recovery instructions"? URL?
Is your archive pst file on a CD?

An archive is not a backup
Assuming the Archive.pst is located on the new PC in a suitable location,
and its read only attribute in file properties is off, then within Outlook,
File>Open>Data File.....browse to the location

You created the archive PST using Outlok 2003 or 2007. The PST is a Unicode
PST. Outlook 2002 can't read that format of PST. You'll need to convert it
to an Outlok 97-2002 PST using OL 2003/7 and then you'll be ab;e to open it
in OL 2002.
