i have had several people who are running office 2003 using outlook for email.
they are all on XP pro or home.
- after starting the outlook program, the screen displays outlook's interface
- but before one can click on anything the program closes and leaves a icon
in the task bar
- then when hover your mouse over icon it disappears
what should i do reinstallation isn't feasible,
going to try to launch word and do a repair of office

These events are not related to your issue. Look in the Application log for
entries made by Outlook.

Thanks Roady,

Option 1 in http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/outlookdoesntstart.htm did the
job
for me.

Before that I had to "repair" my office to get around the problem.

I was also sidetracked by the events (1000, 1001, 2002) in the Application
log.
These occured each time I started Outlook, (ran OK after repair).
At that time also Outlook*.mof was created.

The above mentioned events first apeared when the problems with Outlook
started.
It looks like the corruption in the .pst file somehow triggers the LoadPerf
event
records.

Last week I noticed that for each e-mail message that I opened, also a new
outlook window opened as well, when I closed the message the outlook window
stayed. In the end I had eight outlook windows that I had to close one by one.

The problems with imediate quiting appeared the following time that I tried
to use
it. Therefore I assume that probably the sequence of closing the outlook
windows
caused the corruption.

bero.
