Outlook PST files

I moved my pst files to a directory to do a back up on an external drive. My
mailbox.pst didn't back up. Why? Is it not a pst?

Impossible to say. Try posting precisely what you did, what happened, and
what you expected to happen that didn't. Post as if we can't read your mind.

I moved the mailbox.ps, archice.pst and personal.pst to a local directory so
I could back it up using a Seagate external darddrive. I opened Outlook and
everything appeared normally with the new directory. Then I did a back up and
only archive.pst and personal.pst were backed up. Is mailbox.??? not really a
..pst file?

Only your can tell; you write below 'mailbox.ps' - obviously this is not
a PST file.

Check Control Panel | Mail (Data Files) what and where your active PST
files are.

How, exactly, did you try to do the backup? With Windows Backup? With
Seagate's backup? Windows Explorer? With some other backup tool?

And, in addition to the other questions, was Outlook open when you performed
this backup?
