Outlook Network connection issues

Setup:
5 workstations - running Outlook 2003
1 mail server running MDaemon 7.2.3

Other Workstations are working correctly, however my Workstation has
the following issue. On starting Outlook everything works fine, Outlook
connects to the email server, messages are downloaded and all is good
with the world. However after about 30/40 minutes the smtp conitunues
to work fine but pop login fails and i get a connection error message:

Task 'mail.10.0.0.10 - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP)
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

The unusual thing is that this occurs at 66% of tasks - i.e. as if
there are three tasks that outlook is trying to perform wheras there
are just the sending ad reciving on the single account.

If I close Outlook the Outlook.exe process remains active in the task
manager. I terminate that, re-open outlook, and everything is fine
again until it bogs down again.

I have xposted this in the MDaemon support Newsgroup, but would
appreciate "educated guesses" as to what areas I might investigate to
solve the issue.

Is 10.0.0.10 the IP address of your mail server?

Sounds like a plug-in eventually ****s up. Have you tried running
Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") which does not load any
plug-ins?

Sorry for the delay in answer but i was out of the office. In the
meantime I suspected the antivirus/firewall TrendMicro. I switched it
off and everything is working fine. I will now try and investigate that
route further.

Brian Tillman pretended :
Can you telnet to the the server, connecting to the port to which the POP
server listens?

i used HyperTerminal - and connected to 10.0.0.10:110 (110 is our POP
port) ad got the following:

+OK XXXXX.com POP MDaemon 7.2.3 ready
<[email protected]>

so the answer is yes.

Well, then, Outlook _should_ be able to do the same. Try deleting the
(usually hidden)
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\yourprofile.SRS file and trying again. If that
doesn't work, try a new mail profile. I don't have any other good
suggestions.
