Outlook Mail Error 0x80048002

Updated Office 2003 and XP per MS recommendations today (10 March 2009).
After that cannot download mail in Outlook 2003. Can send messages from
Outlook but in attempting to receive, Outlook hangs with error message
0x80048002.
I’m using McAfee anti-virus. Turning it off does not fix the problem.
Outlook was working OK until the update.

Uninstall McAfee and then re-install without the email integration (scanning). Most
of the time this is the only way to turn it off. Disabling scanning does not always
work

Thanks for the reply. Before uninstalling McAfee, I tried this. I restored
the system to a day earlier to remove the updates. Then I did the XP updates
but not the filter update for Outlook. Outlook problems disappeared and
e-mail was received. Then I updated Outlook. The problem did not reappear.
Outlook was still able to receive e-mail.

I was prepared to use your suggestion, but I I've found uninstalling and
re-installing McAfee a nuisance. So I did the only thing I could think of to
avoid it. Fortunately, it worked. Else I would done as you suggested.
