Outlook Express

I receive an error when trying to send/receive email
through Outlook Express. My cable provider has gone
through the settings and confirmed that all is good on
their end. The error reads:

The connection to the server has failed.
Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Can you give me information about this problem?

Thank you,
RMoreno

The connection has failed, it wasn't a crash on your
computer, so it must be the server at Comcast or the
connection in between. The first thing ISP tech support is
taught to say is that their system is 100% perfect all the
time.

If you get unable to connect, it might be your settings, but
the message you got indicated that you had a connection and
it failed. They have a list of the error codes they use,
have them tell you whether it is a bad server or if you need
some cookie to keep your connection.

Hi

I think you might have Norton Antivirus installed, if you do then you might have to get into NAV options and got to the tab that says email scanning and uncheck "Scan incoming" and "Scan outgoing email" options. It might work. Let me know if this doe

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec *used* to say it wasn't necessary
(on this page, prior to being edited on 24 Feb-04:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001082921552806)...

<paste>
Note: Disabling email scanning does not leave you unprotected against
viruses that are distributed as email attachments. NAV Auto-Protect will
scan any incoming files, including email, as they are saved to your hard
drive. Email scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure
that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect
enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent
virus definitions.
