Running Win Xp with IE 6.0 and Outlook Express 6.0. Received an email from
someone I did not know so sent it to my deleted folder. Now when I go to
empty my deleted folder, everything but this one email is deleted and then it
crashes outlook express. Have run a virus scan and it found nothing. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have any up-to-date (definitions no more than a few days old)
antivirus program always active on your system? Do you have up-to-date
antivirus always active on your system?

Try a post to the microsoft.public.security.virus newsgroup.

See if this helps:

Open Explorer and expand the tree to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name folder\Local Settings\Temp

Delete all from the Temp folder.

Now expand to:
C:\Windows\Prefetch

Delete all from the Prefetch folder.

Close Explorer and right click on the IE icon on the desktop.
Click Properties.
Under the General tab click Delete Files, put a check in the "Delete all
offline content" box and click OK.
Close IE properties.

Reboot, open OE and see if you can delete the file.

Deleted Items is probably corrupt.
Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and see where OE is
storing its data files.
Close OE.
Go to the store folder with Windows Explorer and delete Deleted Items.dbx.
With Win2K, WinXP and Win2K3 it will be a hidden file.
OE will build a new one when you reopen it.

If Deleted Items has messages you want to keep, instead of deleting it move
(not copy) it to an empty Windows folder. Then use DBXtract on the old
Deleted Items.dbx.
DBXtract ($5): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/
You can drag the recovered messages from the Windows folder back into an OE
folder in the Folder List in an open OE.
