Outlook Express doesn't block senders

Michael Mauzey

When I get e-mails from people that I don't want, I click on block
sender ... but their e-mails still come through. I've checked the
"Blocked Senders List" and there is NOTHING in there. I have even
manually typed in the sender's e-mail address, but when I close OE and
re-open it, the "Blocked Senders List' is vacant once more. Any
suggestions? Thanks

Outlook Express message rules only work for POP mail,
webmail such as Hotmail is not filtered.
If your OE rules are valid and not being remembered, there
could be several possible causes....
You might need to be a power user or administrator to make
the change...
You may not have clicked "apply rules" so they are still
just inactive...
You could have a virus which is blocking the function or
just a corrupt installation.

That's all I can think of off-hand.

Hello Michael,
The blocked sender information is stored as individual items in the
Windows registry in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{...}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Blocked Senders.
It seems that it has some problem.

You try this:-

Start > Run > sfc /scannow >ok

if it doesn't help :-

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active

Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA848-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed

below.

Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: IsInstalled

Setting for Value Data: [Change the Value from 1 to 0]

Exit Registry

And if it fails:-
