Outlook Express disappears during identity switch

On occassion the Express window simply disappears when I
try to switch between user identities. I can get it back
by restarting the computer (alt+ctrl+del would probably
work, too), but this is unacceptable.

I found info on fixing the problem at MS, but neither
suggestion worked. One was to uninstall Instant
Messenger, which was identified as the culprit, but there
was no icon for it in the add/remove file. The other had
to do woth editing the register, but the code illustrated
in the example wasn't there. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If you have not installed the Cumulative Update for OE: There are currently
two workarounds and one option:

Click on File/Identities/Manage Identities and remove the
checkmark in "Use this identity when starting a program".

You Cannot Switch Identities in Outlook Express After You Install Windows XP
SP1
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q329084&

Another option/workaround:

Before changing identity, Press F1. The Outlook Express "Help" window will
open (and leave it running in the background). Now click on FILE > SWITCH
IDENTITY and select your other identity.

Option:

Put a shortcut to msoe.chm in the Startup folder and leave the default ID
active.
