outlook express attachments

Outlook Express will not allow me to open attachments. I
always get the following message: OE has remove access to
the following attachments because they may be harmful to
my system. I have Norton's antivirus and it scans
incoming and outgoing mail for viruses. I have changed
the security levels on my system in hope that a lower
level will enable attachments to open. Nothing I have
tried seems to work. I do no believe the attachments
being sent are of any virual danger. Can someone help me
to solve this problem? I am using Windows XP and OE (6)

OE>Tools>Options>Security Tab. Uncheck: "Do not allow attachments........."

Please see these links about virus protection in OE 6.

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
