Outlook Express and IE passwords

Hi

Last night when I started OE or IE the usual connection
window popped up but had 16 `blobs' in it instead of the
usual 8 for my password - wouldn't connect of course but
I re- entered the correct password and all was fine. I
clicked save password and then when I restarted OE I was
back where I started with the same incorrect password.
I've tried deleting the network connection and starting
again from scratch but no matter how many times I enter
the right password each time I start the programme it
comes up with the wrong one again - any ideas anyone?
Thanks. David

Thanks Arjun but I tried these and still no good - I keep
getting 16 characters in my password box instead of 8
when I connect up. Any other ideas? David

I'm sure it wasn't just last night. It's standard behavior and
always does this. It has the password correct, it just displays
the full number of "blobs" so that anyone looking over your
shoulder doesn't have a headstart on guessing your password by
knowing how many characters it contains.

Did you ever solve this. Had similar problem occur both with
oe and eudora. Wound up removing accounts, closing the
program. Start program and re-create accounts. Also, your
pas or user stats may be getting garbled if you use dialup
as this uses standard phone lines. With eudora, I removed
that and located all data and backup programs in system 32
and removed them, then reinstalled and woilla -- it worked.

I can't explain why, but I did discover that IE just
does that. Whatever length of password you have, it
puts twice that number of "blobs" in the box. I've
changed passwords back and forth and tried different
lengths - it always does the same thing. When you type
the password in, it's got the x blobs, but when it
shows it next time, it's 2x long. So, as long as the
password works, don't sweat it, I guess. If it's not
working, the extra blobs aren't the issue. No idea
what the real issue might be.

No, it's not 2 times as long. It's always the maximum number of
characters. That's so anyone looking over your shoulder doesn't
have a head start on guessing your password by knowing how long
it is.
