outlook.exe won't end

Whenever I use Outlook during a session and then shutdown
my computer, the End task window comes up trying to
end "outlook.exe", it takes a few tries and then it
finally does. I can't figure out why it wont end the
program when I quit it normally. I use outlook for a POP
email account, an IMAP account and the calendar.

Do you have any of the following on your computer:

1. PDA synchronization software
2. Fax software, especially WinFax Pro
3. Franklin-Covey Plan Plus!
4. Anti-virus set to scan incoming mail
5. Using Word as the message editor
6. Any other software that hooks into Outlook?

the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Garrett asked:

If starting Outlook from a shortcut, take a look at the target line. If the
switch "recycle" is added after "EXE", remove the switch - else you can run
an endless no. of the app.

Now, I was under the impression that /recycle did exactly the opposite.
According to Microsoft, the /recycle switch tells Windows to use an existing
instance of Outlook rather than creating a new one. In other words, if the
shortcut contains /recycle and Outlook is running, clicking the shortcut
again will simply open the existing Outlook window. Without the switch, a
new Outlook window will appear along with the eisting one.

Then you´ll have to explain why I was able to run 5 * Outlook.Exe, according
to Taskman + System Information. Without any help from this group I managed
to find the switch - from there only one set was/is running. I know the
explaining of the switch, however the effect was clear.

I don't have to explain anything. I just proved to my own satisfaction that
a shortcut containing /recycle reuses an existing Outlook window and one not
using /recycle opens a new window.
