this is happening to me too; I figured out what it is: a) you gave permission
for a "read receipt" automatically, OR b) if you did not give an automatic
receipt, then it could be that a receipt was requested, but you deleted the
e-mail before you read it. I have the latter problem - I have Outlook set to
automatcally delete certain types of e-mail (spam), and as i am finding out,
some of the spammers requested (without my knowledge) a "read" or "not read"
receipt. since i had those spams automatically deleted, those spams now are
sent a "not read" receipt, without my approval - nothing shows in my outbox,
but it does show in the "Outlook send/receive progress window" as sending
"ghost" e-mails. Now, strangely enough, some of those spammers ask for the
receipt, but do not supply a proper return e-mail address, so seconds later I
get a "Mail Delivery System" e-mail, stating that the e-mail could not be
delivered - SO now we know what ist is
HOW DO WE COMBAT THIS PROBLEM? - Anyone out there know?
