Outlook Automatically Permanently Deleting Read Messages

Has anyone had a problem with Outlook automatically permanently
deleting a read message? When I click off a message in my inbox,
Outlook is removing the message from my system. I do not have any
rules set up to do this. Please help, I'm losing messages I need to
save.

Thanks,

Kathy

No but you probably have a VIEW set - try setting the VIEW to messages
rather than unread messages....

Gordon:

Your suggestion did replicated what's happening, but MESSAGES is
checked on the VIEW menu. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Start Outlook once with the /cleanviews command line switch (to reset all
views) or reset the particular folder's view. Exactly how is version
dependent and you decided mentioning yours wasn't important.

Thanks, Brian:

I will try this Tuesday when I get back to work. I noticed in Outlook
Express (version at home) there is a hide read messages option on the
VIEW menu. Does this exist in the regular version of Outlook (version
at work -- where I'm having problem)?

Yes, there is a view to hide read messages called the "Unread Messages"
view. It's under the View menu tree, but that menu is different for
different versions of Outlook and you still haven't said what that is.

RIght-click a blank area of the message list and choose "Customize Current
View". Click "Reset Current View". If that doesn't work, click
View>Arrange By>Current View>Define Views, select the view used by the
folder, and click Reset.
