Outlook 2007 will not open because no "borland database" is instal

Hi All,

When trying to import an address book in Outlook 2007 I selected the option
to import from a Corell database [ie instead of comma, separated values
(CSV), for example]. Outlook then said that can't be done because no
"Borland Database engine" is installed. Now I can not even open Outlook
because each time I try it gives the same warning, then I say OK, then an
error report is prepared and sent to microsoft, and I try again in an endless
loop, never sucessfully opening Outlook.

Not familiar with the "borland database engine", I googled it and it 'looks'
like an old database engine, possibly with the most recent revision being
back in 2001. I am concerned installing something like this from 2001 (just
to get outlook to open so I can cange the settings again) is begging for
additional problems to pop up, so I don't want to do that.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled office ("professional pro plus") twice,
and have run office diagnostices as many times. The problem sticks. I'm
assuming the uninstall process is not complete. Before the second re-install
I deleted the "outlook" folder that was still in my docs and
settings\application data\microsoft sub-folder. Didn't make a difference.

I do have Corell word perfect suite 8 (yes, old). I have it installed only
in the rare event I need an old word perfect file, or if someone sends me
one. I never plan to buy an update to Corel.

If anyone can give me a tip on how to get out of this jam, I would greatly
appreciate it! It is now 5:30 pm and I have blown almost the whole day on
this ...

Have you tried opening Outlook with the safe switch?
Start>Run enter
"outlook.exe /safe" without the quotes, note space between, exe /

Yes, I tried that first thing after a restart of the computer. The same
error comes up stating, "Borland Database Engine not installed. Can't load
corel Address Book Service Provider."

-As a side-note: the option to start Outlook in safe or regular mode is also
provided after outlook first fails to open. The same error occurs in both
regular or safe modes.

I'm guessing two options at this point are:
1) following microsoft instructions for complete manual uninstall of Office
(which I'm concerned is a bit over my head, given the number of command-line
tasks in the registry)
2) Reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the OS, software, and data
(I think easier for me than option 1, but I really hope I don't have to
resort to that)

Click Tools>Account Settings and select the Address Book tab. What do you
see?

I do not think I can get to that point because this error comes up before
Outlook finishes opening up. In other words, I cannot even get outlook to
open.

Thoughts?

Use the Mail applet in Control Panel then.
