outlook 2007 will not allow account settings

Outlook loves me !!

I have been using Outlook 2003 on my windows XP professional. I have just
upgraded to Outlook 2007 (as part of my Offcie 2007 upgrade). Outlook 2007
loads all ight and displays the messages. but when I try to "send/receive",
it keeps mum.

when I attempt to check the account settings, it returns an error "Operation
failed because of a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try
again. if the problem persists, reinstall"

I have 'repaired' the Office 2007 (did not go in for a complete re-install).
I have the same problem. I remembered the problem of 2007 to 2003 and renamed
the MAPI32.dll file, but Outlook 2007 continues to return the same error.

Look forward to the same invaluable help tht I have had from this forum.
thanks.

Have you tried creating a new mail profile via the mail applet in the
control panel? (e.g. don't copy the existing one, create a new one and see
if the same issue exists and the upgrade might have wonked a registry key.)

post-your message, i tried doing that; the options "account/data files" were
not available (nothing was happening) and profile took me to th screen, where
I had attempted to create a new profile and got a message back "Problem in
the registry"

Hmm... try creating a new user id on your Windows system to see if the
"registry problem" is isolated to user or machine.
