OUTLOOK 2007 SAVING EMAILS GENERATES NEW FOLDER

Guest

I save my email messages in each clients files. After installing 2007
outlook, I noticed with the save it is creating another file folder with it
with 2 files in called colorschememapping.xml and filelist.xml. How do I
keep this from being created? Don't want them-uses up unnecessary computer
space. Thanks.

You didn't provide any information to work with here.
Save them where? In what format? By what method?

I open the email and go to file, save as and then find the file I want to put
it in on my computer. Does that help? There is no specified format but it
saves it as an .htm. Within that file that I want to save it to, it creats 2
things - the first is the actual email with the subject line as the document
title. The other is a file folder with the below listed files in it. If I
try to delete that file folder, it deletes the email as well.

Yes, htm-files stores supporting file types (like structure and pictures) in
separate folders.
..mht and .msg file types can store all that in a single a file.

Just curious; why are you moving those items out of Outlook?

To have a record per Client of email conversations. Don't want them kept in
outlook.

I understand they create supporting file types for structure and pictures.
How can I get it to quit creating these files. It didn't do it in Outlook
2003.

Outlook 2003 did it as well for pictures but not always for structure. Using
a separate file for structure in most cases actually reduces space being
wasted. If you really are worried about space usage and performance you
should store the (archived) data within a pst-file.

Hi Sharon,
You wrote "There is no specified format but it saves it as an .htm.".
Don't you have msg format to archive in?
And didn't you have or use msg format in Outlook 2003?
We use the msg format as well and don't keep the email in Outlook!
We now have every client file (Worddoc, Excel, pictures, email as
well) kept together in a directory. Really easy and transparant.
We don't use the html or txt format because you can't forward or reply
on that email, in fact you archive the text of the email only.
