Outlook 2007 NOTES still doesn't include a Scrollbar!!! That is so STUPID!!!

I just checked out the Demo of Outlook 2007 and it STILL doesn't
include a scroll bar inside of a note! I don't understand why they
wouldn't have put that into the new version since this question has
been asked fairly regularly!!! What UP??? The interface for the
notes
section desperately needs an overhaul. Why is Microsoft ignoring
everyone
on this??? At the very least it should include a scrollbar.

Notes are not meant for theses, simply a place to jot down a few words for whatever reason. Notes are not high on the development list as there are *many* more items that lack essential functionality (like synching between computers) that Microsoft needs to focus their development dollars on. Add the normal bug fixes that folks have been complaining about for years and there goes your time and money.

That's not what Notes are supposed to be used for? I don't buy that
argument at all. And as far as time & money are concerned, I have a
difficult time crying a river for Microsoft! If ANYONE has RESOURCES
& MONEY it's Micro$oft! I see your MVP status, but nevertheless, who
are you to say what the notes are for, or for what many people are
using them for? Along with countless others out there, I use Outlook
as a replacement for Palm Desktop & other replacement PDA/PC software.
If notes were only meant to "jot down a few words" as you say, then
why allow the user to scroll an individual note at all by using the
pageUp/PageDown or arrow keys? Why allow users to store pages of
information in one note? Why not just force the user to enter only 10
lines of text and alert them when they go over? I'll tell you why,
because that would be as stupid as not allowing a simple scroll bar.
That's a poor excuse that notes "weren't meant" for that, because that
is exactly what people are using it for. These devices we use are
Personal Organizers, and it makes sense that people would want all of
their personal information to be stored in one application so that
they could then search in that one application and find whatever info
they need in seconds. Believe me if it weren't for Palm Desktop's
lack of any updates at all, I wouldn't have moved to Outlook. Many
have moved to Outlook because there hasn't been a suitable
replacement. But this note interface is lousy, and as someone else in
this newsgroup once said on this very topic, it's been like 1987 since
we've been presented with a window that has such a lame interface.
The notes should be standardized just an email window, etc. I've not
seen the source code obviously for Outlook, but I can't believe that
this change to Notes would require a huge amount of resources to
change it to the standard.

That being said, I still use Thunderbird as my email client rather
than Outlook. In my opinion, Thunderbird & Firefox are superior to
Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, and I predict that Thunderbird
will soon overtake the full version of Outlook as updates and addons
are being produced almost daily to Thunderbird to deal with the sync
issues, and the various other features. When that happens many more
will make the jump, including myself, especially if Microsoft
continues to ignore things like this.

Yes, the Outlook notes section is, and has been for years, fairly lame. But
MS has better products for that task - like OneNote - and other ways to do
it.

Frankly if I were going to use Outlook to keep notes I'd use the Journal.
It already has an Entry type for "Note" and it has a far superior notes
field.

So the bottom line here, is instead of FIXING the stupid & lame NOTES
non-scrollbar interface inside of Outlook 2007, so that we could keep
everything inside of one place, Microsoft wants to squeeze more money
out of everyone they possibly can by forcing them to purchase yet
ANOTHER product from them that could easily be fixed and included
inside of Outlook!!. Should this surprise me at all????!!! It
shouldn't, but it does infuriate me. Just HOW much money is enough
money to the people in Redmond? It just never ENDS!

I have recently finished re-speaking to Microsoft's Outlook team again and found out the "proper" way to submit feature requests.

? Outlook Notes Scroll Bar - If you're not happy with the fact that there are STILL no scroll bars in the Outlook Notes component (Remember that even the ancient Windows Notepad.exe has scroll bars, as well as Windows Mobile Notes!!! However WinVista & Win7 Sticky Notes don't have scroll bars which may have something to do with the underlying form that Outlook Notes may also be using.), then PLEASE provide feedback to Microsoft. After speaking with Microsoft's Supportability Program Managers, they stated that my request was the FIRST time they heard about this issue, and that they need to receive MULTIPLE requests EVERY MONTH to create an internal BUG# to first document this request, so make sure they continue to hear about this EVERY MONTH until it is implemented! Save a reminder in your personal calendar application to click on the following link and re-submit your request, like I am doing at the beginning of each month, until this feature is added to the current or next version of Office!

? Improvement Suggestions - Use the following "Microsoft Supportability Program Managers (SPM)" link to submit your suggestion/request (https://Feedback.Office.Microsoft.com). Note that community participants may vote for suggestions and Microsoft may use the votes to help prioritize features in upcoming versions, but most important of all Microsoft needs MULTIPLE requests EVERY MONTH for this feature to put it higher in the the list of fixes!!!

Sample message (1000 character limit): "Hello, the most BASIC and USEFUL feature that I would like to see added to Outlook's Notes component are SCROLL BARS for notes! BOTH Windows Mobile Notes AND Windows Notepad.exe applications have had scroll-bars for years and they are BASIC application, so why not such a popular, advanced, and valuable tool as Outlook? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE add this feature to the next Outlook update as many people have been waiting years for this feature! If scroll bars were added to Outlook Notes, then not only would both Outlook and Windows Mobile applications be consistent, but Outlook Notes would actually be more useable and advanced than the simple Sticky Notes program within newer versions of Windows. But I think even Sticky Notes should have scroll bars as the original Notepad.exe program still has them! And it would be fine if the scroll bars were the same color as the note, to keep a clean look, but at least you would have the functionality."

Hi

the software 'KatMouse'
http://ehiti.de/katmouse/

will enable scrolling in Notes in Microsoft Outlook 2007

Once you've installed it, follow these instructions:

Go to the KatMouse 'Settings' window by right-clicking on the tray icon, select the 'Classes' tab and drag the crosshair to an open Notes window. A new entry appears in the list box. Press the 'Apply' button. Now double-click the listbox entry and unselect the 'Has scroll wheel support' checkbox. Press 'Ok' and scroll the window now.
