Outlook 2007: Missing "Contacts" folder after power failure

C

Coachy

A friend has a computer with Windows XP and Office 2007.

Recently they had a power failure where the computer was on at the time.
When the power came back, they had some difficulty logging back into the
computer but they eventually got in.

They have recovered most of their email content however there are two
users/profiles on the machine and both email profiles are missing their
respective "contacts" folder along with the content.

I ran a search for the .pst files on the hard drives and could not find the
files. Could the power outage have caused partial data loss? This hgardly
seems likely as both contacts folders are gone but it seems as though those
are the only folders that are missing.

Thanks in advance for your help!

How could you not find PST files when you can open them in Outlook?
Does anyone there back up their data?
From which view are the Contacts "missing?"

It doesn't make sense that only the Contacts folder would be gone. What
happens when you click the Contacts group on the Navigation Pane?

As for finding the PST file. It's in a hidden folder. Make sure you go
into Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and under Tools | Folder Options
| View (he says, working from memory because he's not in front of a
WinXP Box and he's too lazy to fire up his WinXP VM) and make sure that
"Show Hidden Files or Folders" is checked.

Don't forget - when running a search, the default is to NOT search for hidden
files and/or folders ... so be sure to have that checked when searching. :)
