Outlook 2007 downloads emails multiple times

I am running Outlook 2007, XP and AVG free, with the email scanning options
unticked.

In the last few weeks, Outlook has started to download historical emails
several times. For example, today FEb 23 it decided to download 234 emails
received between Feb and 18.

This has happened numerous times, any suggestions would stop me throwing
myself off a tall building...

Perhaps you have the option set in Outlook to leave a copy on the server,
and your ISP has reset some of its settings, thereby destroying the the
notification re mail allready downloaded

YOu are quite right, I have set the messages to stay on the server for 15
days. How do I establish if the ISP has reset settings?
