Outlook 2003

Hi there,
Is it true Outlook 2003 uses other protocols like http web dav to
comunicate rather then only Mapi/RPCs with the server? What benefits does it
have versus Outook 2000?
I am asking because we will upgrade to Exchange 2003 on the server and we
still use Outlook 2000 on the client.
Thanks, Calin

For full technical differences, you could set aside some time and read
articles on msdn.microsoft.com. This online documentation site for developers
has the full-blown, nitty-gritty details on every MS product. I haven't used
Outlook 2000 for a long time but looking at 2003 right now, the regular POP3,
IMAP and HTTP connections are supported. Along with extra support for various
Exchange versions. As for web-dav, the only usefull thing I've found is
publishing live iCal calendars :blush:P.

You do have the option of creating email accounts for third party mail
servers but, by default, there are no supported servers. I'm assuming you
need to install a "connector" library on each client machine to enable
Outlook support for a particular third party mail server. If there is support
for Outlook for a particular mail server, the only place you'll find the
relevant libraries for it will be on the website of the mail server
publisher/vendor. Microsoft would not archive these downloads.
