Outlook 2003 - The folder you have selected is not a subfolder of the default store

Upgraded from Office 2002 to Office 2003.

When sending some email messages, I sometimes want the Sent message to be stored in a
different folder. But under "message options", when I select a folder under "Save sent
messages to", I get this strange popup message:

"The folder you have selected is not a subfolder of the default store. To select a
different folder, click O.K."

A web search just comes up with this solution for Outlook 2000:

but that doesn't really solve the problem.

This was just a minor inconvenience, but it is becoming more and more irritating during
the day.

Can anyone tell me a solution to this so I can save my sent email messages where I want?

For Outlook 2003 and earlier, the Sent Items folder must be in your default
data store, just like the error says. If you create a rule that works on
outgoing messages you can store it in another PST.

In Outlook click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Examine the "Deliver new e-mail
to the following location" drop-down at the lower left. That's your default
data store. It can be a PST, an Exchange mailbox, or a Hotmail/MSN/Live
mailbox.
