Outlook 2003 Personal Address book vs. Contacts

Guest

I have Outlook 2003 SP2. I stored all of my addresses in Personal Address
Book. I just upgraded to 2003. When I press Ctrl + Shift + C (hot key
combination to add a new name to the address book) it brings up Contacts
instead. How can I change the default so that the address book is brought up
instead? I already have Personal address book selected in the default
(Tools/address book/Tools/Options/Keep personal addresses change to Personal
address book)?

Why you want to use Personal Address book? Contacts are much more better way
to use outlook more effectively! don´t be old-fashioned, move your addresses
to Contacts -folder!

Outlook has not used a Personal Address book for 7 years. It was replaced by
the Outlook Address Book and Contacts Folders. Time to get with the game.
Migrate your PAB entries to Contacts and configure the Outlook Address Book.

Paukkule:

I imported my PAB (which was structured by last name first) into contacts.
However, Contacts seems to sort everything by First name so when I search for
a name by last name, it does not find it When I go into Properties and edit
the entry it still lists them by First name in the first column which is
“Name†column. How can I fix this? Is there a way to change the columns
that are listed when you click (To†(the “Select Names†pop up box appears
and I want to have a different order there)?

Try this: Tools - Options - Contacts options button -> first field, put Last
First.
Then (I tested it) use File - Import and Export feature and export all your
contacts to Excel file, delete old contacts cards and then Import Excel file
back to your contacts -folder. Now names are Last First, also when you open
it from e-mail To -button.

Dear Paukkule:

I followed your steps but do not know what you mean by “delete old contacts
cardsâ€. Please explain step-by-step process of how you would do this. (I
don’t see any “Contacts cards†in the excel file. Do you mean to select all
items in the contacts folder and then right click it and chose “Delete

Thank you

Check the results of your import.
In the PAB, The First and Last Name of the recipient are both in the First
Name field.
Take a look at this MS KB article, it may help:

Yes, delete adresses from Contact -folder and then bring them back from Excel
file using File - Import and Export feature.
