Outlook Outlook 2003 mail backup to CD

I have transferred a large batch of e mails to a PST folder in Outlook and then backed this folder up to a CD using Roxio Easy CD Creator on my Dell PC with Windows XP. I wish to check that I have these e mails on the CD but it's content is shown only as the folder's name. I can't recreate the CDs content in either Outlook or anywhere so I am not prepared to delete the items in the folder I believe I have copied. It's no use making a CD if you can't recreate an item should you need it. How can I recreate or have I got the wrong stuff on the CD. Thanks folks !
