Outlook 2003 keeps shutting down

For weeks Outlook has been shutting down (I get "not responding") message.
It takes several minutes to delete the smallest files and often when deleting
or opening email, Outlook "freezes" and I have to restart. Outlook is
currently configured using a PST for a Mindspring account. Often, it will
download multiple copies of email. I have tried "repairing" the pst but am
having the same problem. If I reinstall Outlook how can I keep from losing
old email and the folder layout? When I have tried to reinstall before and
save the pst on the network and reopen it once the program is reinstalled I
have the same issues of Outlook "not responding" Any suggestions?

Old mail should be retained in the PST file. Copy it for added protection.
What add-ins do you have installed? Try disabling them and see if it helps.
I'd try a new profile in preference to a reinstall. Create it via the Mail
icon in Control Panel. Start with a clean and new PST. You can open your old
one and copy items over .
