Outlook 2003 does not access my POP3 accounts

On my new Notebook Outlook 2003 connects over the LAN or internet to a
company exchange server.

I have added the account details to my private ISP but as soon as I press
the "Test Account Settings ..." button the tasks "Find outgoing mail server
(SMTP)" and "Find incoming mail server (POP3)" have the status cancelled and
a red cross in front of them. I don't even see the "in progress" status as
you normally would and there is no message in the errors tab.

The ISP account settings are 100% correct and I have tried it with "Outgoing
server authentication" on or off.
Off course it did work well with my previous notebook and now nobody can
tell me what settings (XP / Outlook / McAfee ?) have changed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Could you try an actual send/receive (rather than testing the account) and
report the error messages that you see?

Hi Jeff,

This is the message:

Task '(e-mail address removed) - Receiving' reported error (0x80040154) : 'Unknown
Error 0x80040154'

That means that some component that Outlook is trying to use isn't present
(or at least is not registered) on the computer. Did you perhaps uninstall
Outlook Express after you installed Outlook? Outlook requires one of OE's
components to send and receive Internet mail.
