Outlook 2002 - Clicking Inbox Closes Program

Whenever I click on and try to open my Outlook 2002 Inbox Outlook closes. I
began archiving mail in the hopes that reducing the size of my large Inbox
would solve the problem. Now, if I click on either Inbox or Archive Outlook
closes. I have tried the Inbox Repair tool (Scanpst.exe) and have reloaded
Office. Neither solves my problem. I note that the both files are quite
large (Inbox – 330,000KB; Archive – 149,000KB) and wonder whether this is
part of the problem. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

If you move your PST files to another directory and start Outlook, it'll
complain that it has no PST/Personal Folder and you'll be prompted to create
a new one. Create a fresh PST and see if Outlook stays alive with it. If so,
you can try copying or importing from the old PST later.

I followed the suggestion, but didn’t get the intended results. After moving
the *.pst files to a separate location, I restarted Outlook and when prompted
created new files. However, clicking on Inbox (whether new or old) causes
Outlook to exit. And, unfortunately, when I transferred back the old *.pst
files, I ended up with second sets of Archive and Personal folders. I have
been successful in eliminating the extra Archive folder, but not the Personal
folder, which is identified as “Outlook Today – [Personal Folders]â€. Any
further suggestions as to how to fix the initial or the new problem would be
sincerely appreciated.

Thanks for calling my attention to the Command-Line Switches. These may
prove useful to me over time. Unfortunately, after starting Outlook 2002
with " /CleanViews" I found that clicking on Inbox (i.e., trying to open it)
continued to have the effect of immediately closing Outlook. And, this is
true for both of the Outlook Inboxes I now have. Any further suggestions you
have for the unwanted exits or the double set of folders (one now has all my
old files; the other all new mail, etc.) would be very much appreciated.

So, Outlook still closes when you go to the Inbox even though it's empty.
It's a long shot but try starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews command
line switch. This switch (and a few other really helpful ones) are discussed
here:

I can't think of anything at the moment other than asking if you've applied
all the available updates/patches for OL2002. I'm guessing you have but I
figured I should ask.

Thank you. Yes, I have downloaded and applied all available updates/patches
for both OL2002 and Windows XP including SP2 & SP3.
