Outlook 2000

When using Outlook 2000 in .rtf format (and using XP
Professional), attachments to the sent email which have
been created as "Word .doc" or "Excel .xls" files
actually arrive as "winmail.dat" files which the
recipient can't open. If I change to HTML format or plain
text format, the problem does not happen. Is there a
remedy?

Most other e-mail programs can't handle Outlook Rich Text format (the
only one I've heard of that may be able to is Eudora). When you send a
message in RTF to another e-mail program user, the rich text formatting
is stripped and put into that .dat attachment, and all other attachments
are lost. You'll have to use HTML or Plain Text to send to those users.
