Outlook 2000 to 2003 Compatibility

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2000 in work, and moved a number of emails onto
a memory stick, for access on the move. I then opened these messages in
Outlook 2003, and now cannot re-open them again in Outlook 2000. I get a
message "Unable To Read The Item". They appear to have been transformed to
Outlook 2003 messages, juts by opening them. How can I open them again within
Outlook 2000?

how did you move them? Were you reading the messages directly from the
stick? did you properly disconnect the USB stick before removing it?
(Including closing outlook first.)

I basically just dragged them from the view pane of the Inbox in Outlook 2000
into a folder on a memory stick. I then dragged them from the folder on my
memory stick into the Inbox view pane in Outlook 2003. I then proceeded to
organise them slightly by dropping them into specific folders that I retain
on my memory stick for emails. I quite often retain hard copies of emails on
my memory stick, just so that I can refer to some emails whenever I am
travelling. Though do not usually bring them into Outlook 2003.

If you brought them into Outlook 2003 and then dragged them back to the
memory stick, you've probably converted them unti Unicode format, which
Outlook 2000 can't read. In Outlook 2003, click
Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Option and uncheck the box labeled "Use Unicode
Message Format when saving messages".

Is there anyway of converting the actual MSG file back to the Outlook 2000
format from Unicode, without actually using Outlook 2003?

I could be trite and say, "use Outlook 2007" (clearly that's not Outlook
2003) but, no.
