outlook 2000 CW mode without Exchange server: problem downloading emails

My customer has installed oultook 2000 in CW mode because my app uses
extended mapi features that are only supported in CW mode.
They don't have an exchange server and are now experiencing the following
problem:

'The main concern being the time Outlook takes in trying to find an Email
Exchange Server and then being unable to download (receive) our incoming
emails. We do not have the capacity or need for an Email Exchange Server as
our requirement was adequate under Outlook Internet mode.'

I cannot find anything to solve this issue. Does anyone have an idea how to
configure Ol2000 in CW mode in such way that it doesn't want to connect to
exchange anymore?

Don't include any Exchange account in the user's mail profile.
