Outlook 2000 Contacts

I imported contacts from an excel file and they show up in
the contacts folder but when I click on a new message and
the To: field, there are no contacts anywhere. What am I
doing wrong?

Hard to know. You've not provided enough information.
State your mail support mode. (Line 2 of Help | About if you don't know).
State whether the imported Contacts have valid (resolved) email addresses.
State what you do see when you click on the To: field.
