Outlook 2000 and purging IMAP folders

I recently signed up with an outside mail provider and their default
configuration is to use IMAP, not POP3. That was fine, but I just
learned about this problem:

My email client (Outlook 2000) doesn't purge deleted items from the
server.

Earlier this week one of my clients had sent me about 25 MB of
attachments, and they bounced today. Turns out that my mail was over
its quota of 100 MB. (I got this service so I would *never* run out
of room!)

The mail service admin told me today that most email clients can send
an instruction back to the server to "purge" deleted items from the
server. Unfortunately, we couldn't find an automatic purge setting
anywhere in Outlook 2000.

(It took a long time to find a manual purge command: select one of the
IMAP folders, click Edit, Purge. That's not where I would expect to
find "Purge". The most logical place would probably be to right-click
on the folder. Maybe more recent versions have it.)

Anyway, the admin said that most of his other clients use other email
clients. He believes that there should be a setting for Outlook, to
automatically purge mail items from the server when they are deleted
from Outlook, but we couldn't find it.

I don't know if this will be helpful: I have created a rule, to move
all email received from this IMAP account into the Inbox under
Personal Folders. All emails in the IMAP Inbox are shown with
strikethrough, meaning that they should be deleted. However, they are
actually not deleted until I purge.

Deleted emails can also be purged if I check the IMAP account via
webmail. But one reason I got this service was that I wanted to use
just one email client and keep all my emails in one place.

Any suggestion for how to automate the purging of deleted items from
IMAP and folders? It would be fine if I could create a macro to purge
these items every time I closed Outlook.

Thanks.
