Click File and check "Work Offline". Stop and restart Outlook. Delete the
message from the Outbox. Click File and uncheck "Work Offline".

Brian,

Your suggestion did not work. I had to set a valid outgoing SERVER in the
Account settings, that would let the email out without question and then it
completed the sending process. There were 5 items that were already well past
the OUTBOX so it needed help completing it's transfer.

Thanks for you help in any case.

There can be no "well past the Outlbox" If it's not in the Outbox, then it
will have been sent. If it's in the Outbox, it won't have been sent. What
I suggested will work if Outlook actually closed when you stopped it. There
are other ways to address it as well, and you found one of them.

Brian,

Thanks again. I will not argue the point, I just know that the OUTBOX
was empty and I was continually receiving an ERROR when doing a SEND/RECEIVE.
In any case, it has been resolved. Thanks for helping to point me in the
correct direction.

Most likely then it was undeliverable read receipts, which are hidden
messages and don't appear in the OUtbox (although they really are there).
Had you mentioned that the Outbox was empty, I would have directed you to a
web site on how to clear hidden Outbox items, but you've solved your
problem, so it's academic.
