Out of office reply

I do not have an exchange server and have tried to set up an automated reply
without an assistant. Have disabled the word editor and created an .oft
template and followed the rules intructions. I cannot get the reply to work.

Have you check to see if your mail server offers the feature? Many of them
do now and it won't need Outlook running all the time.

Our mail server does not offer this feature, unfortunately.

Does Outlook send out anything in response to incoming mail?

Sometimes is will display an "error in replying to incoming mail" message.
Other than that there is nothing that gets sent out to the mail sender.

Weird... where are you storing the OFT file?

I set up a rule to move certain incoming mail to a specified folder and it
does respond to that.

I have run thru a variety of rules to test such as sending certain mail to a
certain folder, forwarding certain mail to certain people etc. and all of
them work. For some reason Outlook does not like the out of office reply.
