Out of Office Assistant

We are running exchange server 5.5 and some users are having problems with
the out of office assistant. We have a few people that travel and have a
need to set up an auto response directing others on who to contact should
they be out. The problem is the auto reply does not go to any external
email addresses. Only those emails sent from within our company network get
the auto reply. How do you set up OOOA so that anyone with an external
email address receives the auto reply?

The Internet Mail Connector on the Exchange server needs to be configured to
allow it. The feature is off by default because these types of replies
could lead to mail loops.
