[OT] Windows 7 Aero Controversy?

Just for grins I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor beta on my computer. I'm actually planning to buy a new computer when Win 7 releases.

To my surprise, my minimally upgraded 2002 XP machine passed the Upgrade Advisor's tests. But here's the part that really surprised me: "Your system can run Windows Aero."

The Vista version of Microsoft's upgrade advisor, run on the same hardware, said my computer could /not/ run Aero in Vista.

Have the hardware requirements for Windows 7 been lowered vis-a-vis Vista, or is a 'Windows 7 Capable' controversy in the works? I would applaud Microsoft for understanding that the next generation of software shouldn't always require the next generation of hardware to run properly.

The Win7 test is probably more accurate. The Vista Upgrade Advisor
said my old P4 system would not run Aero, but not only did it run Aero
without problems, the video rated at 4.7 in the Vista Aero Performance
index.

Lol...that's good news. I may even try the Win 7 RC in that case. It would
be really good to get some experience with the new OS before the first time
I power on my new computer. This would also be a good reason to learn about
dual-booting...something I've wanted to try for some time.
