We have chosen to keep the free version as a way of thanking all the people
that have come with good suggestions and bug reports to help us in the
development. We also want to offer our users the opportunity to get a
registered version at a favorable price: only $9.95 until the end of
January. You even get unlimited upgrades![/q]

Although i dont use star downloader, the fact that they are keeping a
free version , and offering unlimited upgrades for a pro version at that
price seems quite reasonable to me.Obviously though with so many
downloaders about (free and not so free) i imagine the pro would have to
be good or have something "different" to entice a diehard freeware person
away :)

The freeware version is the old version 1.42, so the free version won't be
updated.
In the meanwhile they have harvested over 50 translations. And what do the
translators get in return? A license for Star Downloader Pro.
In more than one meaning of the word that's a cheap way to have your
shareware translated. I'm glad I haven't done the Dutch translation.

Looks like another one will bite the dust. Again a company has used
freeware as a cheap way to test its beta versions.

In options, disable the "check for updates" automatically.

Thanks, didn't give that a thought.

I've been using v. 1.41 for some time now and I've seen those pop-ups
from time to time.
They don't occur EVERY time, just every once in a while. I just checked
under Options
and sure enough the nofify of updates was checked. I just UNchecked it,
so probably
the end of the 'update version is out..do you want to update?' nag. I
didn't see it often
so just didn't really consider it such a hassle. Hopefully it's history
(the pop-up that is).
